                      The Stainless Steel 1960 T-bird

At our February 8, 2024 club meeting our vice president, Mike Hall, gave a presentation entitled "The Allegheny Ludlum Stainless Steel 1960 Thunderbird".   Subsequently, Mike and Brett Andrews, our newsletter editor and webmaster, prepared an article based on Mike's presentation that is to be published in our April 2024 newsletter.  Due to newsletter page constraints, not all the fantastic pictures of the stainless steel Thunderbird could be included.  Mike's briefing also identified two other stainless steel vehicles commissioned by Allegheny Ludlum to be built by Ford.  So, for those who missed Mike's live presentation, click on the link below to access his full briefing.   Enjoy!

At our 13th June TSWO meeting, Mike, our club VP, gave another of his informative and educational presentation on the 1962/63 Thunderbirds Sports Roadsters. Below are two .pdf files of Mike's PowerPoint presentation and the two videos he also showed us.  His presentation file had to be split into two files because as one file it exceeded the single file upload limit of 10mb permitted by the program owners (Weebly/Square).  Part 1 contains Mike's narrative charts and multiple roadster pictures.  Part 2 contains the remainder of the photos included in his presentation.  Click on  "Download Files" to see part 1 and part 2.  Click the small arrow in the middle of the two pictures to view the videos.

 The 2004 Thunderbird
         Pacific Coast
       Special Edition

At our 10 October club meeting, Mike gave us another presentation in his series on special and unique Thunderbirds.  This installment highlighted the 2004 Pacific Coast Special Edition.  To see Mike's full PowerPoint presentation, click here.

At the end of Mike's oral presentation, he showed a video of this special Thunderbird.  Unfortunately, Mike's video was in the .mov format (movie) which the current version of our website build software will not support without upgrading to a more expensive version.  So, I found a YouTube video to which our current website development software allows us to link.  However, this video was produced by a car sales company, but it does do a decent job of showing off the Pacific Coast Thunderbird attributes.  To view the video, click here.

The 1959 Thunderbird of Elvira:            Mistress of Darkness

VP, Mike Hall’s, special presentation for our January club meeting was on the ultra-unique 1959 Thunderbird, “Elvira’s Macabre Mobile.”  This one-of-a-kind original customization was by George Barris, a well-known and leading-edge California customizer who began in the mid-1940s and continued for many decades thereafter.

The 1980 Thunderbird Silver Anniversary Edition

Vice President Mike Hall’s special presentation in February was on the 1980 25th Anniversary Special Edition Thunderbird.  The Silver Anniversary edition consisted of a special cosmetic-option package (this was the top of the line for options), Anniversary-glow silver paint with silver/gray velour, 4.9L V8, automatic overdrive transmission, Frenched rear window, Burled Rosewood interior trim, commemorative badging, and integrated garage door opener.  This 25th Anniversary edition was the first special edition Thunderbird produced that was not limited in its production numbers.

“Italien” Show Car

For his March presentation, VP Mike Hall selected the 1963 Thunderbird "Italien": a gorgeous one-of-a-kind show car designed and built by Ford.  Some of our club members who has been with us for a few years may remember this car was one of several unique vehicles briefly described in an article that appeared in our September 2022 club newsletter.  Needless to say, Mike's presentation provides much more detail, many more photos and a video of this fantastic looking one-off Thunderbird.  This just may be one those cars that Thunderbird fans may wish had gone to production.

At our July 10, 2025 TSWO club meeting, our club VP, Mike Hall, intriqued us again with some facts and figures about a one-of-a-kind and quite unique Ford concept car experiment with a jet engine powered '55 Thunderbird.  As an added bonus Mike provided a few insites into another jet powered car, the Chryslers Turbine car from 1963-64.

    The 1965 10th Anniversary
   Special Edition Thunderbird

At our September 11th, Patriots Day, club meeting, Mike Hall gave another informative presentation on the 1oth Anniversary Special Edition Thunderbird.   As would be expected, Ford gave all their special edition T-birds unique design characteristics and this '65 was no different.  Among them was a unique paint color, EmberGlo metallic, with a parchment vinyl roof.  EmberGlo did not appear as a color option in general production T-birds until 1966 and then was discontinued in 1967.  To read more about this highly sought after Thunderbird and its special features, click on the PowerPoint presentation below.

   The 1978 75th Anniversary
Diamond Jubilee Thunderbird

At our November club meeting, Mike's special presentation was on the the Thunderbird designed to celebrate Ford's 78th anniversary - The Diamond Jubilee.  As you will see in reading about this unique vehicle, it was a production car but contained many features that set it apart from the production Thunderbird of that year.  What made this presentation even more special was that two of our club members, Roger & Lisa Hamm, own one of these eye-catching vehicles.  What made the presentation doubly interesting was that it was Roger & Lisa's car that was used in the accompanying video made by Mike.
